Start your itinerary at one of the best gardens in Cumbria. Holker Hall is set in 125 acres of parkland with woods containing many rare and beautiful species and lovely formal gardens with a distinct Italianate feel. Features include a limestone cascade, formal beds filled with inventive planting, a romantic rose garden, a rhododendron and azalea walk and a wildflower meadow.
Levens Hall, Kendal, Cumbria
Cumbria is also home to Levens Hall. The Elizabethan Hall has an outstanding topiary garden laid out from 1694. Impeccably clipped yews and box in a diversity of shapes are set off by colourful planting. Stroll through the fountain garden with lime walkways, or relax under massive beech hedges that open to vistas over parkland.
